From Textile Waste to Workplace Surfaces
A tabletop is one of the most visible and frequently used elements of office furniture. It is also an opportunity to make a more considered material choice.
Kvadrat Really’s Textile Tabletop offers an interesting alternative to conventional surfaces. Made in Denmark from 70% textile waste and 30% waste binder, it gives discarded textiles a practical application in furniture.
For us at TSI Workspace, the appeal is how a material like this can become part of a well-designed, useful Workplace.
A different material expression
The collection comes in Cotton White, Cotton Cream, Cotton Blue and Cotton Sage. Its visible fibres give the surface character, while the use of existing textile waste without added dyes means some colour variation between batches is expected.
That variation is something to consider early when specifying several tables or planning future additions. We would recommend reviewing physical samples alongside seating fabrics, flooring and other finishes to establish how the materials work together.
Designed for everyday use
Recycled content needs to be supported by practical performance. Kvadrat Really offers Textile Tabletop in 18mm and 22mm thicknesses, with rectangular and circular sizes, custom dimensions and several edge treatments. The product carries a five-year standard warranty.
For an office project, the specification should also consider cleaning, edge protection, fixings and the demands of the space. A meeting table, individual desk and shared breakout surface may each need a different approach.
Start with what the workplace needs
A new surface can also prompt a useful question: does the whole table need replacing?
Where existing bases remain suitable, replacing the tops could be worth investigating. Dimensions, stability, loading and fixing compatibility would need checking before confirming that approach.
The same thinking applies to new furniture. Choosing the right size, a suitable base and a finish that will remain relevant can help avoid an unnecessarily short replacement cycle.
Our view
Textile Tabletop is a material worth considering when a project calls for a distinctive surface with recycled content.
The strongest specification will bring together appearance, performance, cost and supporting environmental information. Recycled content is one part of that decision.
